Winter Wellness: Staying Active Indoors
January 21, 2024

Hey FitFam! 🏋️‍♀️❄️

Brrr, can we talk about this winter weather? Freezing cold or raining – the struggle is real! But fear not, staying active during these chilly days doesn't have to be a challenge. It's all about getting creative and having fun with your workouts to beat the winter blues. 🌧️💪

If you're stuck indoors and wondering where to start, why not dive into one of my on-demand workout videos? I've got you covered with guided sessions, and the best part? You choose the workout that suits your vibe for the day. In the meantime, here are a few of my go-to workouts that require little to no equipment – perfect for your indoor sessions. If you don’t already have a fitness timer, I suggest the Seconds Pro app. It already has several workout timers preprogrammed!

1. HIIT: High Intensity Interval Training

Don't let the name scare you off! HIIT is all about giving your max effort in intervals, with built-in rest. Pick 5 moves like squats, lunges, crunches, pushups, tricep dips and more. Set a timer for 30 seconds of work and 30 seconds of rest. Go through each move, repeat for 3-4 rounds, and voilà – a quick and effective 20-minute workout!

2. Cardio & Abs Combo

I love pairing cardio and abs – it's a dynamic duo! Set a timer, alternate between cardio (squat jumps, jump rope, high knees, skaters, etc.) and abs (sit ups, oblique crunches, single leg drop, dead bug, you name it). Aim for 6 minutes of continuous work before taking a break. Repeat for 3 rounds (or more) – you've just conquered a fantastic workout!

3. Tabata Time

Tabata, the king of interval training! Work hard for 20 seconds, rest for 10, and repeat 8 times. Choose two movements (lower and upper body) and alternate. Pro tip: mix it up with or without equipment. (Examples: Bicep Curls & Squats, Overhead Press & Lunges, Plank & Sumos) Get ready for a challenging workout that will leave you feeling accomplished. You can do as many rounds as you have time for- I suggest shooting for 30 minutes.

Feeling Competitive? Challenge Accepted!

Grab your friends or family for a friendly fitness face-off. Who can hold the longest plank? Crush the most squats? Get a deck of cards involved – each card reveals your rep count. Jacks, Queens, and Kings? All equal 10 or 15 – your call!

And if you're not a member of Massey Fit or another gym, no worries! Explore indoor tracks at local churches or malls for a change of scenery.

Remember, I'm here for you, always ready to help you crush those fitness goals! My sessions at Massey Fit are designed to keep things fresh, providing new challenges every day. On those days when leaving the house feels impossible, give one of these workouts a shot and let me know what you think! 🌟💬 Let's keep the energy high and those fitness goals in sight! 💖👟
