Classic City Marathon Relay Experience
January 29, 2024

Hey FitFam,

Guess what? I just had the most epic running experience of my life, and I couldn't wait to share it with you! So, buckle up, because this is the story of how a group of amazing women turned a questionable race day into an unforgettable adventure.

Leading up to the relay, doubts were creeping in. My running pace felt off, and I was constantly catching my breath. Even my trusty running buddy was feeling the same jitters. The fear of letting down my teammates loomed large. But you know what? The night before, I decided to toss those worries aside and just embrace the moment with positivity and fun.

Let me introduce you to the rockstars of the day: Hannah, our navigator, sign maker, and team leader extraordinaire. She had snacks, scouted the best cheer spots, and brought all the good vibes. Can’t forget Mandy, she took so many fun photos, cheered the loudest and kept us all in good spirits!

Our first leg runner, Katie, braved cold, windy temperatures, setting the bar high. I knew I had to keep that momentum going. The course, oh boy, it was beautiful! The first 2 miles were a breeze, then the hills hit. But when I saw my teammates at the 3-mile mark, cheering and lifting my spirits, I found a renewed energy. Shoutout to the RaceJoy app – it let my family send motivational messages, saving me just when I needed it most. "YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS '' came through, and I almost shed a tear. There were a couple of times I saw a crowd in the distance and thought that was the end, but I was wrong, still had more running to do. I may have picked up my pace prematurely. Once I saw my people, I sprinted to the finish. They would have a funny story to tell about me, feel free to ask them. Once I finished - I was gassed. So glad my part was over, I gave it my very best.

Then came the real fun – cheering on the second half of my incredible teammates. Brooke crushed her leg. She is uncatchable on the downhill!  Emily? She ran like the wind, clocking in close to 7:30! We cheered, honked, and dodged traffic, making it to the finish just in time for a triumphant photo of Emily crossing the line.

Would you believe it? Our group snagged 9th place out of 96 relay teams, just minutes away from the top 5! Woohoo! WE CAN DO HARD THINGS! I like to think everyone who encountered the bright pink Massey Fit team felt the love and good vibes. We didn’t just cheer for our team, but everyone who passed us!

Relay races are a blast, especially when you have a team like mine – supportive, hilarious, and downright awesome. This experience reminded me that running is about more than just pace and distance; it's about the joy of the journey and the incredible people you share it with.

Can't wait for the next adventure! Until then, keep crushing those goals, FitFam.

YES YOU CAN,
